First Choice Builders Merchants, Hayes

Clarks Construction Ltd was appointed to undertake a comprehensive re-cladding and amenities upgrade of a 1950s warehouse facility for First Choice Builders Merchants in Hayes, Middlesex. The project breathed new life into a tired, mid-century industrial structure, transforming its external envelope whilst introducing modern amenities to support the client's ongoing trade operations.

The re-cladding programme saw the removal of the existing, weathered cladding and its replacement with new light-grey vertical corrugated metal panels across the warehouse elevations. The new cladding significantly improves the building's thermal performance, weather resistance and visual appearance - bringing a clean, contemporary finish to a structure that had served the site for over seventy years.

Works extended beyond the envelope to include the installation of new external cantilevered steel storage rack systems with industrial-yellow support arms, providing organised, weather-protected external storage for timber and building materials. New fire exit doors were installed flush within the cladding, complete with emergency bulkhead lighting and compliant signage, ensuring the facility meets current fire safety standards.

External amenity upgrades included new floodlighting to the storage yard, perimeter security enhancements and car park re-marking. Throughout the project, the builders merchant remained operational, requiring careful sequencing of works to minimise disruption to deliveries, customer access and trade counter activity.
