Hiring: Contracts Manager & Quantity Surveyor

Little Gaddesden Church

📍 St Albans, Hertfordshire · Full-Time, PAYE

We're a third-generation main contractor delivering projects valued between £1m and £10m - commercial, developer-led residential, and education/care, new-build and refurbishment.

Due to continued growth we're hiring two people: a Contracts Manager and a Quantity Surveyor.

These are genuine opportunities to shape how projects are procured, controlled and delivered, and to play a meaningful role in building something with us, rather than being a small cog in a big machine.

Who we're looking for

Before qualifications, character. Whichever role fits you, you're someone who:

  • Takes radical accountability - asks "what could I have done better?" first

  • Over-communicates, so nobody's ever left guessing

  • Anticipates problems before they arise

  • Builds strong, fair relationships with clients, consultants, subcontractors and site teams

  • Is commercially sharp, organised, and takes real pride in getting the detail right

Contracts Manager

You'll take ownership of live projects from pre-construction through to completion. You're the person clients and consultants trust to keep delivery on track and problems off the table before they land.

What you'll do

  • Own programme and delivery across our concurrent live projects

  • Set and run procurement strategy

  • Manage and performance-manage subcontractors

  • Coordinate site teams and resolve issues before they hit programme

  • Handle contract administration under JCT

  • Front client and consultant relationships through to practical completion

What you'll need

  • Solid experience delivering £1m–£10m construction projects

  • Real confidence on the commercial and contractual side, pre-construction through completion

  • SMSTS / CSCS / relevant qualifications

  • Full UK driving licence

Quantity Surveyor

You'll own the commercial side across several live projects, keeping a firm grip on margin and cashflow and giving the team clear, timely commercial visibility at every stage.

What you'll do

  • Run procurement and subcontract packages

  • Prepare monthly valuations and cost reports

  • Manage variations and change control

  • Own subcontractor accounts and final accounts

What you'll need

  • Solid experience on £1m–£10m construction projects

  • Strong commercial and contractual capability, pre-construction through completion

  • Full UK driving licence

How to apply

Email your CV and a short note to careers@clarksltd.com, telling us which role you're going for.

Apply by email rather than calling the office - the office line is for live projects and we'd rather give your application proper attention than take it over the phone.
